232.series
I compose with intuitive decisions in the moment I am creating.
The 232.series highlights these instinctual skills; I layer and compose each six inch by six inch work of art in and throughout my process rather than planning before. I begin with acrylic paint, charcoal, graphite, chalk pastels, sharpie markers, charcoal powder, and oil pastels. I do not know the end result, but am excited to reveal the mood and energy that the piece will have when completed.
Although difficult to fully describe with words - I know that I am finished creating a piece belonging to the 232.series when the composition, balance, or intrigue of materiality within each piece captures the viewer attention by requiring more amount of time to view the details within the piece. High energy levels caused by the fluidity of the mark making, the dimension of the acrylic paint, the intricate details of the sharpie markers, and the chaos of the charcoal powder are all defining details within each piece. These abstract moments contrast with the squared paper that attempts to perfectly contain the vibrant movements and abstracted layers of the materiality.
